Narrowing the Orgasm Disparity: Do Women Have as Much Sexual Enjoyment as Men?

Now, we know it's not a competition, but there was a norm that men 'enjoy' sex more. This focuses on desire and satisfaction rather than pleasure. Many factors play a role, so it's a generalization to say men enjoy sex more. Societal views and attitudes have impacted women's sexual arousal. So, are norms to blame or do innate differences like libidos and hormones also play a part in sexual enjoyment?

What is the Orgasm Gap?
YouGov survey shows only 30% of straight women orgasm vs. 63% of straight men. Many women's partners rush, while they haven't even started. The gap affects heterosexual women, but lesbian women (40%) are more likely to orgasm. What's behind this?

Do Women Have Lower Sex Drives?
We should mention gender and sex differences. Findings suggest sex drive is higher in men. Testosterone is thought to cause this difference. Evolutionarily, men might be more inclined to casual sex, while women are more selective.
Now we have contraception, we f*ck for fun. Focusing on sexual enjoyment, the evolutionary approach might make us believe men enjoy sex more. Hormone differences like estrogen and testosterone levels are considerations, and menopause can cause low libido.
Men learn about self-touch faster, while women don't need to touch their clitoris in daily life. This, along with lack of encouragement for self-exploration and slut shaming, also contributes to the sexual desire discrepancy between men and women.

Good Girl Conditioning
Women are still subjected to 'good girl conditioning'. Subtle messaging still exists, women are encouraged to hide sexual interests and shamed for desires, while men are celebrated. Psychologists say women's pleasure, sensuality and sexual desire have been minimised and wrapped up in shame.

Women Get Worse Sex
Women having penetrative sex have worse sex than men, due to lack of understanding of female genitalia and orgasm. We know less about female orgasm due to lacking research and sex ed. YouGov's research shows differences between women who orgasm every time and those who don't. Women who orgasm every time are more likely to receive clitoral stimulation, e.g., 38% of straight women who come every time say it includes clitoral stimulation, vs. 18% of those who don't always orgasm.

Do Women Enjoy Sex Less Than Men?
For some women, it may seem so, but not all. Sex and gender differences can impact desire and climax speed, but not enjoyment. Orgasm gap isn't a true reflection of women's enjoyment. We should note the difference between orgasming and enjoying sex. The big O isn't everything. Women can still enjoy sex without orgasm. Communication, exploration, and experimentation are important during sex, not just the end goal.

How to Bridge the Orgasm Gap in your Relationship?
To bridge the orgasm gap, do things like learn female anatomy, communicate, explore positions, use toys/lubricants, and focus on the clitoris. The goal is a satisfying experience for all. Acknowledge and address it to empower women to enjoy sex.
